Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course’s grade points (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.) by its credit hours to get quality points. Sum all quality points, then divide by total credit hours. Example: an A in a 3-credit course and a B in a 4-credit course = (12+12)/7 = 3.43 GPA. Use our GPA calculator for instant results.
What is a good GPA?
A 3.0 (B average) is generally good. A 3.5+ qualifies for most Dean’s Lists. A 3.7+ is competitive for graduate school. The average US college GPA is about 3.1. See where you stand with our college GPA calculator.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted uses a standard 4.0 scale for all classes. Weighted adds extra points for advanced courses — typically +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP/IB, allowing GPAs above 4.0. Our high school GPA calculator shows both side by side.
How do I calculate my final grade?
Enter your current grade percentage, the weight of your final exam, and your target grade. The formula calculates the exact score you need. Try our final grade calculator — it also shows if your target is achievable.
What GPA do I need for college?
Most colleges expect 2.5-3.0 minimum. Competitive schools want 3.5+. Top universities typically look for 3.8+. Use our raise GPA calculator to plan how to reach your target.
How do I convert percentage to GPA?
US standard: 90-100% = 4.0 (A), 80-89% = 3.0 (B), 70-79% = 2.0 (C), 60-69% = 1.0 (D), below 60% = 0.0 (F). For precise conversion with plus/minus grades, use our percentage to GPA calculator.
What is a cumulative GPA?
Your cumulative GPA combines all semesters into one overall average. It’s total quality points from every course divided by total credit hours. Our cumulative GPA calculator combines your existing GPA with new semester grades.
